25A – What’s Next?
What I Think Is Next: What would be next is the craft of the information that will be taught and shared with schools. This is the most important step because it is serious, teaching sex to the youth can be tricky. The information would have to be specially crafted in order to fully educate these students in a relaxed and educational manner. The steps to be taken would to first get consent from parents and find a schools that will allow time out of their schedules for this extra information to be taught to students.
1) The first interview I did went very well, I interviewed a teacher who said she believes this project will be greatly beneficial to the youth in their futures. She agreed that there is not enough time, energy and education on sex within the youth of today. She said she doesn't even think its taught at all in her grade level which is 9th. She said what we should do is literally incorporate this information into the county educational system.
2) The second interview was a high school student currently in her junior year. She explained into detail that she was never educated on sex and its very upsetting to her. She thinks this will be very useful to children of all ages. She suggested to make sure the information is playful and not too serious or boring.
3) The last interview was with a parent of a high school student, her son is a freshmen. She believes this is trivial in a high schoolers education because it is a part of life. She suggested to make sure the information is approved.
What makes the most sense for my business venture at this point in time would be having a planning stage. I would need to first have a solid execution plan in order to approach schools and have them implement this into their teaching curriculum or add it in as a new class. The information included would have to be spot on in being education, fun and comfortable. Many people shy away from the topic of sex because it is not talked about at home. School should be a safe space for conversation and education on safe sex.
I have connections with a sexologist who can be great help in creating the information within this project. She has studied sex health for years and is extremely knowledgeable on everything in order to educate and help others. I feel the customers would want anything that will benefit them.
New Market
New market is an older crowd.
The radically different market that I would be able to sell this idea to would be an older crowd. You would be surprised on how many elder people are uneducated on the actual meaning and power of sexual relations. Many older couples seek relationship and sex help because they become disconnected from the actual meaning of it.
The would create value for the people in this market because sexual information benefits everyone. It is the start of each of us and the root of our existence. Educating parents will lead the way for them to educate their children and have that become a healthy cycle of natural communication about safe sex.
Interview
1)The first interview was with a Father of two. He has been married for over 20 years and sees a lot of potential in this project. He sees it being like sexual education and therapy at the same time, which can help improve relationships and peoples safety.
2)The second interview was with a single mother of one. She was never taught about sex and only learned through her own personal experience. She would love to learned more solidified information to help both her and her daughters lives. She said that she tries to make sex a comfortable conversation with her daughter which is very important and the start to a healthy and safe sex life. She thinks that having different levels of information based on age would be smart.
I learned a lot about this new market and that their is market in any age & gender when it comes to sex education because it is beneficial to all. I learned that it would be in this projects best interest to have a range of levels dealing with the information and intestate based on age age and experience.
I had a few expectation and assumptions before dealing with this market because I've dealt with older crowds in every job I've had prior so I knew what to expect.
This new market is not as appealing as my initial market due to the fact that sex education is the most vital for the youth because it is the age when they begin exploring. To be educated before acting can set a standard of safety for the rest of that Childs life. Sex education is so important in our youth of today.
I really enjoyed reading your post. The first person you interviewed seemed to have great insight being that he is a father. I did a class project similar to this one last semester and interviewed one of my gay friends Oliver. Oliver and his partner Javi have been together for a few years but their lack of education has taken a toll on their relationship. One morning, Oliver woke up with purple spots located around his rectum and feared the worst. Turned out it was a rash caused from sweat secretions from his butt. If they had the basic knowledge about STDS, he would have never worried.
ReplyDeleteThis business and educational opportunity you have shown seems to be incredibly important and I see that it is necessary. At my high school there was a Health class that wasn't required but at least it taught students about stds more in depth. I feel as though if this was more widespread it would prevent a lot of ignorance in the future. I love how you care more about the people more than the business and it shows a good character.
ReplyDeleteSelena,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post andI think it is important because it can take a financial burden off of you. Also it is nice to have someone in your corner to support you and telling you that you are not alone. Fundraising alone can bring you relationships and networks you may have never thought you would have. Also for your topic it is already so many organizations willing to help and fund.
